SHADES AT EDGE

Perched 100 stories above the bustling streets of Manhattan, Edge stands as the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere. For the summer season of 2024, I heped created and produced a unique site-specific installation titled SHADES, designed to investigate the interplay of light and color, with the entirety of New York City as our backdrop. The concept behind SHADES is both straightforward—utilising the three subtractive colors as filters to alter the city's skyline—and technically challenging. Throughout the development process, our team at Makeout navigated the intricacies of the filters, sought to achieve the perfect hues, ensured crystal-clear visibility, and, notably, devised a method to securely attach these filters to the observation deck’s windows. This needed to withstand the summer's heat, wind, and rain without compromising the integrity of the glass, which is uniquely engineered just for this purpose.
